Wills and Estate Planning Guide - Looking for Your Input
Community Living Ontario is delighted to share that we are in the early stages of developing a Wills and Estate Planning Guide, in partnership with PooranLaw; a comprehensive resource for people with a disability and their families, outlining best practices for wills, trusts and estate planning.
The guide will position people and their families to be better informed by providing them with a framework for discussion with their legal and financial advisors. In addition, this specialized planning tool will provide valuable information to service providers on the latest rules and regulations surrounding government benefits and eligibility.
The resource will be available free of charge to individuals and families as a downloadable document on Community Living Ontario’s website. The guide will also be updated regularly as government regulations and tax laws change. It is anticipated that the Wills and Estate Planning Guide will be available by June 2016.
We anticipate that this resource will cover topics such as government benefits, beneficiaries with disabilities, financial and tax considerations, management of assets owned by people with a disability, personal rights, as well as planning related to wills, trusts, and estates.
In order to best capture the most relevant topics to people with a disability and their families, we are asking that you share details of this project with people supported and family networks in your community, and to solicit input on what information and resources they would like to see included in the guide.
All suggestions should be directed to Heather Evans by email at
hevans@communitylivingontario.ca, no later than Friday, January 29, 2016.
