60 Years of Community Life

Community Living Welland Pelham celebrated 60 years of Community Life at our Annual General Meeting. The meeting was attended by over 80 people and most notable many of the associations past presidents came out to celebrate with us. Past President, Paul Holmes led the evening and introduced Kimberly Gavan from Community Living Ontario who brought greetings on behalf of the provincial association. This was followed by the induction of the 2013-2014 Board of Directors by People First President – Justin Marr.
David Middleton, second vice president, then made presentations to out going board members Richard Roberts and Paul Holmes, for their dedication to the mission and vision of the association. Paul then recognised the past presidents and their families who were in attendance.
The highlight of the evening was memories from the associations 3rd president Kay Repar (President Nov.1953 - Mar. 1954) who garnered emotion and a standing ovation from the audience. She reflected on her time with the association.

Another highlight of the night was the presentation of the 2013 Inclusion Award. Michael Jacques, an ambassador for inclusion, was this year’s recipient. After a short video showcasing interviews with Michael’s friends, teachers and colleagues, Kimberly Gavan, from Community Living Ontario, and who has worked with Michael on the Reaction for Inclusion conference hosted by the provincial association, presented Michael with the award. With a passion filled speech, Michael received his award. Michael then presented his position on inclusion and why it is important.
